Do you consider yourself a proactive or a reactive teacher?

The truth is, this is not an either/or question: we need to be both.

My work with teachers - new and, well, not-so-new 😉 - has shown me that, as a profession, we are often a lot better at the REACTIVE kind of teaching… and less-great with the proactive stuff.

@jannaonpiano has a great theory as to why this is, and it’s how she starts our conversation on today’s episode of Beyond Measure.

After confessing that *my* oldest recently told me, “Not everything has to be so deep, mom!”, @florence_phillips_music told this oh-so-relatable remark from her teen: “Can you stop trying to inspire me?!”

Here’s a truth for you: people are often funnier when they don’t TRY to be funny.

…and the same is true for inspiration.

We (myself included 🙋🏼‍♀️) are often guilty of trying to inspire our students with motivational speeches. And many times, the teens are OVER IT.
